SIMS Grads... Where are they now? Part 2: Justin

SIMS has been around for 10 years and we’ve had a rotating board of extraordinary students who have helped this club flourish! This year we’ve had to say goodbye to two of our most valuable board members; Arushi and Justin, our VP Comms/Co-President and Co-President/ Co-VP Marketing. Here are some updates on where they are now and some awesome tips for students!

What have you been up to after graduating?

Since graduating from U of C I have been preparing myself for Graduate school. This summer I have been working on a part of a Canola general review and reading research papers to get an idea of what my PhD research topic will be on. I’m excited for the next 4-6 years to delve deep into the researching world and to be working on a ground breaking project, which will hopefully give me the opportunity to advance my researching skills. After my graduate program I am still unsure on what my career will look like, but I will try and get into med school or pursue a career in either the industry or academia for plant biology.

How much do you feel SIMS contributed to your university experience? Any parting words for the execs specifically?

SIMS contributed a lot to my university experience as a whole and more specifically my clubs experience at the U of C. It was nice to be a part of a family type executive team and I wish that never really came to an end. Everybody on the executive team did a fantastic job, especially our president Giselle. I know for a fact that the club and executive team is in very good hands and that the club will flourish in the coming years with everybody’s dedication and hard work.

Do you have any words of advice for our members, both new and old?

If I were to give any words of advice it would be to follow your dreams, and to try and take as many opportunities as you can and to always give your all because you never know what those opportunities will turn into. I think my final note would be to breath and actually enjoy the journey that you’re on.
